When you think of your glutes, you don’t usually think about the muscle on the side of your hip.
Today we’re talking about gluteus medius, an oft-forgotten muscle that performs multiple actions.
Gluteus medius is getting a workout in everyday life. It’s instrumental in core stabilization. One of its major jobs is to help keep your hips stable, which helps keep you upright. Runners, in particular, want to pay special attention to strengthening this muscle. Runners are also prone to experience particular strain here.
If you find you have soreness in your side or have trouble stretching it, get a massage. I work with a lot of athletes who constantly seek extra core stabilization. Lengthening this muscle can really improve your training program.
