Many of my articles on here concern massage, but I am a Level III Reiki master as well. You might be saying to yourself: “… Whuh?”
Let me explain.
Can you feel the energy field around you? If you really focus when you put your hands together, can you feel a point at which there’s a temperature change, or where you feel a little bit of resistance? That’s your energy field. It takes different names in different traditions. According to Reiki.org, “The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means ‘God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power’ and Ki which is ‘life force energy.’” A Reiki healer is a conduit for this energy and is able to channel it to help other people.
* What can I expect during a Reiki session?
During a Reiki session, you will experience a light laying-on of hands at different points on the body. You will be laying face-up on a massage table, fully clothed, with or without covers (your preference). Crystals and aromatherapy can be used to help promote opening of the chakras, but that is your choice as a client. You probably will experience deep relaxation and either a “floating-up” of memories or other visions. You also might experience a reduction in pain, as painful spots can be impeding the balance and flow of energy throughout your body. Increasing that flow can help reduce pain.
* Why should I seek Reiki?
People who receive Reiki report a reduction in pain and deep relaxation. These benefits obviously can be helpful for injuries (especially those which cannot yet be treated by massage, if they are acute), illnesses, anxiety, depression, and stress.
